The Altair Partner Alliance, which hosts a subscription-based suite of software, has announced the addition of Additive Works’ Amphyon program.
A simulation-driven process software, Amphyon enables the automatic optimisation of part orientation for powder bed-based, laser beam melting additive manufacturing processes. Additionally, it offers build-up process simulation and the adaption of process parameters, meaning users can achieve higher part quality through a more stable process.
It becomes the latest software tool available via Altair Partner Alliance’s suite. Here, subscribers to Altair Partner Alliance’s own HyperWorks software can gain access to a range of other Altair products, as well as third-party software programs. Access to these other solutions comes at no extra cost after purchasing a license to HyperWorks. Users will now have access to Amphyon, and Altair is happy to offer it.

“Amphyon was designed to replace the experiment driven development of build-up strategies in laser beam melting with simulations and geometry analyses,” adds Dr. rer. Nat. Nils Keller, Co-Founder & CEO at Additive Works. “Due to the numerically calculated knowledge about process-induced thermal and mechanical loads, the build-up process can already be optimised on the level of pre-processing. This will save HyperWorks users a lot of resources and additionally enhance the part quality as well as the level of automation.”
As well as a save on resources, Amphyon is said to also bring a reduction on costs, time and energy. Integrating fast numerical process analysis and simulation within the process chain, quality and accuracy can be, not only maintained, but improved upon per Additive Works. The company adds, this is achieved without the need for further action by the user.
Consisting of several modules able to support the pre-processing steps, Amphyon concentrates on three areas of focus: helping designers get to know AM, and deal with issues as they arise; helping researchers study process physics by numerical simulation; and, within just a few steps, help production optimise pre-processing and build data.
To mark the introduction of Amphyon, Altair will be hosting an introductory webinar on July 11th where they will inform viewers how to get the best out of the software.
