Quality assurance software developer, Sigma Labs has announced the signing of a Technology Development Agreement (TDA) with OXYS Corporation, which will impact its PrintRite3D INSPECT program.
OXYS Corp is a technology company, based in Cambridge, MA, operating within the Industry 4.0 market. Under the TDA, the two companies will first concentrate on a project to bring an architecture platform on the INSPECT software. Sigma Labs hopes this platform will enable miniaturisation of the hardware/ software integration, moving it towards board-level integration, and also expand its PrintRite3D brand of software solutions to the Smart Factory and Digital Enterprise, including polymer-based 3D printing.
Mark Cola, CEO of Sigma Labs, recently sat down with TCT to discuss the company’s growing geographical reach as his company extended its presence in the progressive Asian market. With this alignment to OXYS, Cola and Sigma Labs are reaching out into a progressive technological space.
“Industry 4.0 is so named because it represents the fourth industrial revolution and a new way of thinking of both the factory as well as the broader digital enterprise,” Cola said. “The first three industrial revolutions brought us mechanisation, mass production, and computerisation respectively. Industry 4.0 represents the complete interconnectedness of the digital enterprise across multiple dimensions.
“Internal to the organisation, there is a single digital thread linking the highest enterprise level applications and decisions to the lowest shop floor sensor data. Externally facing the customer, there is unprecedented continuity and quality of customer experience as well as visibility and transparency, again facilitated by the ubiquitous presence of cyber-physical objects seamlessly bridging digital and physical worlds. Our collaboration with OXYS represents a first but important step for Sigma Labs to enter this broader world of applications, markets, and value for creation for our customers.”
OXYS Corp is a start-up based in Cambridge, MA, which links up with the wealth of innovative institutions in its close proximity, such as MIT, Harvard, and Boston University. In addition to that, the company believes it has a richness of talent in-house too, with vast knowledge of and access to the connectivity capabilities that make the Industry 4.0 what it is. Its first project with Sigma Labs will see OXYS harness this knowledge, before making preparations for other projects in the future.
“As a first step with Sigma Labs, we plan to work on an Industry 4.0-compaitble version of their solutions for additive manufacturing,” explains Giro DiBase, CEO of OXYS Corporation. “Then we will work with them to significantly expand market presence and opportunities to many other processes in the manufacturing and smart factory domain.”
Meanwhile, Cola, who co-founded Sigma Labs in 2005, is excited at the prospect of working with the group. In particular, he cites those links to technically astute Massachusetts institutions, and is confident Sigma Labs’s growing customer base will be the beneficiaries.
