U.S. based large-format 3D printing specialist, 3D Platform is renowned for its big, often quirky, prints and those were recently brought to the UK for the company's third outing at TCT Show along with news of updated hardware that’s reducing print times considerably.
Recognising the need for speed in the industry, the company has upgraded its extruder capabilities to allow users to print large parts up to 1000 times faster. For example, a 1kg spool of material which has traditionally taken around 25 hours to extrude, can now apparently be printed on a medium sized extruder in just 30 minutes or on a large extruder in one minute.
We also hear about 3D Platform’s recently launched scalable large-format machine concepts including the Delta 3D printer which enables prints as tall as 4 metres, and the Excel multi-gantry machine which brings together the best of additive in parallel with subtractive and robotics capabilities.
Speaking about the current state of the industry, John Goode, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at 3D Platform, explained how the company’s open approach to the industry makes them particularly interested in developments in the open materials market.
“It’s an exciting time and one of the most exciting things is the continued development of open materials,” John commented. “We believe strongly in open materials because the experts in materials science and chemistry are affording us new opportunities to do things we never would have imagined.”
