The Challenge
A leading personal care product manufacturer sought a packaging solution for a new toothbrush to be launched in a highly competitive marketplace. The company needed electronic CAD data and real-life parts to showcase the product’s key features.
The customer was faced with the lack of electronic product data, lack of physical product prototype, time-to-market delays and production for high-volume tooling that was too costly for prototype development. Timing had become a critical issue.
The Solution
In developing the 3-D product imaging, the vacuum-formed packaging was Reverse-Engineered to create a new toothbrush model. Rapid prototype vacuumed tooling was then produced, enabling production of a working prototype in just 10 days, and yielding a low-volume part with the potential of saving thousands of dollars in production mistakes.
The Results
eServ’s Reverse Engineering yielded process improvements and cost savings. Engineering drawings were made available for the downstream process. Sales and marketing were given pre-production, realistic images to help launch the product effectively. Time-to-market was improved with the prototype tooling and parts, which helped our customer retain their competitive edge. The timing issue was resolved……from concept to working prototype in just 10 days.
