A Mumbai-based start-up has developed and patented what it believes to be a world-class 3D printing technology.
Divide By Zero, who first entered the additive manufacturing industry in 2013, has introduced Advanced Fusion Plastic Modelling (AFPM). The technology is said to deliver superior form and filament compared to other additive techniques, such as Selective Laser Sintering (SLS), Fused Deposition Modelling (FDM) and Fused Filament Fabrication (FFF), and thus produce output which is more accurate.
While SLS, FDM and FFF remain functional, Divide By Zero wanted to advance these techniques, rid 3D prints of compromised quality and finish of the output and deliver a more affordable solution.
“In the world of additive manufacturing, Selective Laser Sintering technology delivers the finest results with respect to build quality, strength and precision,” a Divide By Zero press release read. “However, SLS 3D printers are known to have a heavy price tag. A similar output quality and strength can now be achieved at a lower cost using Divide By Zero’s contribution to the 3D printing world: the AFPM technology.”

Divide By Zero’s 3D printing solution engages three primary techniques: layer features size recognition, temperature estimation and control; material flow deposition estimation; and control and extrusion failure repair and control. The AFPM technology uses the aforementioned techniques in order to combat the drawbacks presented by other methods.
Whereas current FFF 3D printers, for example, use constant temperature to melt print materials and build parts layer-by-layer, meaning the flow of molten material is constant across the geometry of the part, AFPM can manage this process well. Controlling the temperature and flow of the build material, AFPM can improve the adhesion between layers, imparting more strength and outputting with more accuracy.
Divide By Zero has found AFPM-derived products to be stronger, more tensile and thus able to withstand more stress and pressure.
The start-up has been a market leader in India for 3D printing technologies and have been contributing consistently towards enabling innovation for large-enterprises, SMEs and individual designers alike. Their most recent contribution may also be their most valuable since its foundation.
