Robo R2
Foxconn will begin production of the R2 machine, setting an initial annual target of 10,000 units.
Robo 3D has announced Taiwanese electronics company, Foxconn Technology Group as its new production partner for one of its new 3D printing systems.
The San Diego-based manufacturing company launched its R2 and C2 printers on Kickstarter last September, both of which were showcased at CES 2017 earlier this month. Foxconn will now begin production of the R2 machine, setting an initial annual target of 10,000 units.
Despite Robo’s already-established presence in the 3D printing sector, both new innovations were launched on Kickstarter, encouraging the public to financially back the technologies. With over $300k raised, Robo were able to set a release date of February 2017 for the R2, while the C2 is already available to purchase.
This month, Robo were named CES 2017 Best of Innovation Awards Honoree for the R2 3D printer. Now with Foxconn’s support, production of the R2 will be considerably up-scaled, and should meet significant demand for the innovative technology.
The Robo R2 is a high-performance smart 3D printer. Wi-Fi compatible, it allows the user to tackle large-scale projects thanks to a print size of 8” x 8” x 10”. The machine can even be controlled from a mobile device, via the Robo app. It gives the user the ability to not only print from the app, but also monitor progress with the help of an on-board camera, manage multiple prints at a time and connect to cloud libraries, accessing thousands of 3D models. Robo’s new printer also offers a removable, heated and automatic self-levelling print bed and the ability to add an additional extrusion head and print two materials at once.
Robo’s new partner, Foxconn Technology Group manufacturers for major electronics and information technology companies. Since its foundation over 40 years ago, Foxconn has aimed to supply innovative technologies. The company has delivered a number of iconic product ranges including the iPhone, iPad, Kindle and Playstation.
