Leading high precision 3D wax printing manufacturer for the jewellery industry, Solidscape has announced the winners of the seventh annual Baselworld Design Competition.
Baselworld inspires industry leaders and top designers to showcase their creations and innovations on a worldwide stage.
With a record number of 43 designs entered into this year’s competition, the judges have selected two winners for each jewellery category: Platinum, Gold and Silver.
Sharing the Platinum Award for jewellery is Anna Popovych and Daniel Coffey. Popovych, from Ukraine, entered her ‘Drop of Freedom’ ring which won for its aesthetic and technical merits. A talented CAD designer, Popovych is designing an entire collection around here nature-inspired forms. Meanwhile, Coffey’s ‘Elementum 17’ ring was regarded as a challenging design. The judges noted its delicate, interwoven lines as an excellent example of the design freedom that Solidscape high precision 3D printers offer.

The Gold award was shared by Stuart McGrath from Ireland and Thailand’s Ananya Chuechanglek. McGrath entered his ‘Rainforest’ ring, which ‘wraps exotic creatures among the forest and water-coloured gemstones.’ Chuechanglek’s entry was the ‘Chalom’ ring, inspired by a patter and cone shape of a hand-woven bamboo basket, commonly used in her homeland.
Meenakshi Rawa of India and K. Abeney of Canada were the recipients of the Silver Award. Rawa’s ‘Leaf Hair Pin’ was said to capture the detail of the leaf’s netted veins, while featuring a subtle twisting curve to the leaf’s blade, which completed its aesthetic beauty. Abeney’s ‘Resting Butterflies’ pendant was a 3D double-sided piece which showed a dozen of interwoven butterflies resting together. The reverse of the pendant showed a pattern created by the wings of the butterflies.
Additionally, the Fine Art award category recognises unique entrants that represent free form expression of non-jewellery designs executed in a manner similar to jewellery. These require mastery of CAD design and Solidscape’s industry-leading high precision 3D printers to create flawlessly castable pieces.

Prachaya Viriyashuthee of Triratana Jewellery in Thailand won the Platinum Award in Fine Art for its ‘Lotus Blossom Incense Burner’.
Prachaya Viriyashuthee of Triratana Jewellery in Thailand won the Platinum Award in Fine Art for its ‘Lotus Blossom Incense Burner’. The lotus flower has been a symbol of purity with its delicately tapering edges, recreated perfectly by the Solidscape high precision 3D printer.

Design entries were judged based on successful wax modelling printed by a Solidscape 3D printer, best design, as well as best use of technology (CAD/ Solidscape 3D printing).
