GE Additive has signed a Memorandum of Undertsanding with Korea Aerospace Industries Association (KAIA) and Incheon Industry-Academy Collaboration Institute (IIACI).
The agreement was reached on October 15th, and will look to reinforce cooperation in the continued development of additive manufacturing (AM) in the aerospace sector.
Korean manufacturers will be educated about AM processes; GE Additive’s AddWorks consultancy service will define the business case for the use of AM, from the design of parts to the establishing of efficient production workflows; and KAIA members will be recommended to join GE Additive’s Manufacturing Partner Network, based on their respective capabilities.
The Manufacturing Partner Network was launched earlier this year, and includes the likes of Burloak, Carpenter and Protolabs. It has been designed to enable greater access to AM expertise and better meet the demand for the technology, and with the introduction of Korean aersopace players, the partners believe will have a significant impact on the market in Korea.
"We hope that the agreement with GE Additive will serve as an opportunity for domestic aerospace companies to expand their capabilities in manufacturing aircraft parts and expand into the global market,” said Oh-jung Kwon, Vice Chairman of KAIA.
Kwon was present at the ceremony which marked the partnership, where KAIA Chairman, Jowon Kim, and IIACI Director, Chang Kyung-Ryoo, signed the Memorandum of Understanding with Czek Haan Tan, GE Additive’s AP&C General Manager.
