NatureWorks has introduced a new support structure breakaway formulation for use in dual extrusion 3D printing systems.
The Ingeo 3D450 support material has been designed to work with NatureWorks’ Ingeo 3D series of professional-grade materials, including the 3D850 and 3D870, and is compatible with large-format printers.
It is said to help enable high quality surface finishes, reduce the time spent post-processing printed components, eliminate buildability issues encountered with some PVA and HIPS soluble support materials, and ultimately help to improve productivity for businesses implementing the technology.
The support material can sustain printing speeds of up to 100 mm/s and prints and cools without warpage. Suitable applications include complex industrial parts, like jigs and fixtures, and patterns for investment metal casting, as well as architectural models. It has been beta-tested by multiple partners of NatureWorks ahead of its launch, including by Voodoo Manufacturing who reported, “there was a significant reduction in part cleaning times, about ten times faster than using PLA supports. Additionally, we have been able to lower the support roof to model spacing, which results in better bottom-part quality.”
Titan Robotics will demonstrate the Ingeo 3D450 on its new Atlas hybrid filament and direct pellet extrusion print machine during the AMUG Conference in Chicago between March 31st and April 4th.
