Renishaw break ground on N American HQ
Renishaw first broke ground on the 133,000 square feet space in 2015, and is set to open its new North American base next month with a ribbon-cutting event.
Global metal additive manufacturing company, Renishaw has announced it will be moving its North American headquarters to West Dundee, Illinois, 40 miles from Chicago.
Renishaw first broke ground on the 133,000 square feet space in 2015, and is set to open its new North American base next month with a ribbon-cutting event. The company believes its move to a larger, multipurpose facility demonstrates its potential growth and commitment to the North American market.
The two-storey facility will be located at the Oakview Business Park and will include space for product development, testing, warehousing and distribution. It also means Renishaw’s two existing sites will be consolidated. Of the new space, 47,000 square feet is to be dedicated to warehousing and distribution, while the remaining 86,000 square feet will provide space for corporate services staff, as well as demonstration, training and conference facilities.
These training facilities will make up Renishaw's Additive Manufacturing Solutions Center will provide businesses with the space and resources necessary to get to grips with 3D technology, for possible future integration.
Additionally, there will be an open two-storey exhibit hall for customer tours and product demos, and the facility will be able to accommodate future expansion.
“With the popularity and adoption of Industry 4.0 and Smart Factory philosophies, our products and services are relevant to a larger and more diverse group of manufacturing operations,” said Howard Salt, President of Renishaw. “These new facilities make it more feasible, logistically, for us to work cooperatively with customers and potential customers in North America, and develop solutions specific to them.”
Renishaw will celebrate the opening of its new home in March, but the company does not expect to have moved in and have the base fully operational until as late as October 2017.

Renishaw Void Scanner 2017 update
The latest version of the Void Scanner is the first cavity monitoring system to be fully developed, engineered and manufactured under the Renishaw brand.
Though, the company has been preparing to move HQs in North America, production has continued. This month, Renishaw has released an updated version of its Void Scanner cavity monitoring system (CMS). The latest version is the first CMS to be fully developed, engineered and manufactured under the Renishaw brand.
First launched in 2008, the Void Scanner is a high-speed, low-cost CMS used in the mining and civil engineering industries to produce fast, accurate 3D laser scans of voids where access is limited, dangerous or prohibited. Improvements to the Void Scanner include better internal gearings, which has enhanced point cloud quality and surfacing, leading to improved data accuracy for better on-site decision making, despite challenging locations.
“We are exceptionally proud of the development efforts involved in bringing this new cavity monitoring system to market,” said Martin Carr, General Manager of Renishaw’s Spatial Measurement Division. “From the starting point of listening to our customers to understand and evaluate their needs, through to significant redesign, engineering and testing we have produced a high-quality, high-performing system designed for the most demanding of environments.”
