3D Systems 3DXpert for SOLIDWORKS
3DXpert for SOLIDWORKS includes a design for additive manufacturing toolset, enabling designers to prepare and optimise designs for 3D printing.
3D Systems has announced new releases of Geomagic for SOLIDWORKS 2019 and 3DXpert for SOLIDWORKS 14 ahead of SOLIDWORKS World 2019 next week.
These software platforms are designed exclusively for the SOLIDWORKS user community, and aim to streamline workflows and optimise part designs for 3D printing, to ultimately produce better parts in shorter timeframes.
Geomagic for SOLIDWORKS is an integrated 3D scan-to-SOLIDWORKS software platform which enables users to build CAD models of real world objects in minutes. The new version of the software, which has received SOLIDWORKS’ Gold Product Certification, can facilitate colour information of scans, meaning better visuals for design engineers. Meanwhile, new tools and enhancements through commands for Probe Points, Extract Reference Point and Edit Scan allow the software to manipulate multiple scan objects simultaneously. There is also said to be clearer distinction between the scan-specific tools and the SOLIDWORKS application’s own tools. General availability of this updated version is planned for March 2019.
3DXpert for SOLIDWORKS is a SOLIDWORKS add-on which gives uses a design for additive manufacturing toolset, enabling them to prepare and optimise design for the 3D printing process. Updates allow users to benefit from new lattice types and have extensive control over lattice structures to afford designers with greater creative flexibility, and with a click of a button, SOLIDWORKS CAD data can be brought into 3DXpert and read back to SOLIDWORKS the optimised and ready-for-print data. Additionally, users have new 2D/ 3D nesting tools, a new joint-cut tool and enhanced part orientation, and analysis tools at their disposal to make manufacturing consideration accessible in the design phase. 3DXpert for SOLIDWORKS standard edition is available for download, while additional add-ons and 3DXpert for SOLIDWORKS Professional edition are available through the VAR network.
“3D Systems’ end-to-end software solutions are a catalyst in the product development cycle,” commented Radhika Krishnan, senior vice president, general manager, software, 3D Systems. “With new releases of Geomagic for SOLIDWORKS and 3DXpert for SOLIDWORKS, 3D Systems is reinforcing our commitment to the SOLIDWORKS community to streamline digital product design as well as making additive manufacturing an integral part of the workflow – increasing efficiencies and lowering total cost of operation. The power of these software solutions to transform business is what delivers true competitive advantage.”
“After implementing Geomagic for SOLIDWORKS into our 3D scanning and design process, we have seen an approximate 30% reduction in cycle time, from initial 3D scanning to having a SOLIDWORKS file ready for the CAD design process,” offered Eric Steen, R&D Manager, Yoshimura R&D of America. “Geomagic for SOLIDWORKS greatly improved the accuracy and speed of our 3D point cloud collection process, and having Geomagic run smoothly inside of SOLIDWORKS instead of a standalone software has simplified this process even further. Yoshimura R&D relies on Geomagic for SOLIDWORKS as an integral part of our R&D processes.”
3D Systems will be showcasing these new software releases at SOLIDWORKS World at Booth #442 between February 10-13, 2019.
