Magnetic MRO 3D-printed aircraft
A range of 3D-printed aviation-approved parts
Aircraft maintenance and repair service, Magnetic MRO are to begin work on the 3D printing of aviation-approved parts.
Magnetic MRO and MAC Interiors, the company it acquired in February 2016, have together come across new opportunities to expand Maintenance, Repair and Operations (MRO) services and innovative in-house capabilities. One of these being 3D printing technology for more cost effective and quality interior solutions.
The MRO company has already established a reputation for its dedication to the latest innovations and technological advancement in the market that create competitive advantages. Recently, Magnetic MRO’s Research and Development specialists explored 3D printing possibilities within MAC Interiors’ facility. This led MAC interiors in the direction of using 3D printing technology in their production process for the very first time in company’s history.
Without naming names, Magnetic MRO revealed MAC Interiors recently started a new programme in cohesion with a leading aircraft interior product manufacturer, in order to design and produce functional mock-ups for a client’s new product. This has been the first MAC Interior design that has used 3D-printed parts for a client. It resulted in a high quality production with the assistance of their new parent company, Magnetic MRO. Final touches for the 3D-printed parts, including gluing, sanding and painting, has been taking place in MAC Interiors facility under their supervision.
“Joint know-how in industry dynamics and technological improvements is the main leverage of both parties’ bespoke quality and service excellence,” said Andrius Norkevicius, Managing Director of MAC Interiors. “As MAC Interiors, we have proven that we are capable of designing and finalising 3D printed parts not only quickly but also accurately dimensioned and lightweight. More importantly, we got to exceed customer expectations in our first trial and gained a significantly competitive experience.”
Magnetic MRO has been working in aircraft repair and maintenance since it was founded in 2002. Meanwhile, MAC Interiors, which was originally founded as Aviation Furnishings International in 1962, has focused on the retrofitting and refurbishment of lavatories, galleys, seating, partitions, stowages, monuments and VIP interiors for commercial aircraft.
