Artec Micro takes on a heritage preservation application.
Artec 3D has announced the launch of Artec Micro, a compact metrology-grade 3D scanner which boasts high precision capabilities.
The sub-€30,000 desktop scanning device is said to be among the company’s most accurate products to date, boasting twin cameras and a point accuracy of up to ten microns, and can capture images in full colour.
Its introduction into the Artec 3D portfolio means the company supplies products that can scan objects big and small. With the Micro, users are simply required to place an object on the scanning plate, which has a capacity of 90 x 60 x 60 mm, select from a range of smart scanning paths, and click to begin the scan. Scanning can be monitored via the Artec Studio software, where the data is also processed, and files exported in STL, OBJ, BTX, and a host of other popular formats, to a number of CAD/CAM software programmes, including SOLIDWORKS, Control X, PolyWorks Inspector, and Design X.
Artec believes its latest product is well-suited to quality inspection, precision mechanics, and reverse engineering, applications which are required in a plethora of vertical markets, from jewellery and dentistry to heritage preservation.
“Artec Micro embodies the same combination of industry-leading accuracy and unparalleled ease-of-use that all of our scanners have become synonymous with,” commented Artyom Yukhin, President and CEO of Artec 3D. “This latest addition to the Artec family of scanners brings Artec into the metrology market and fills an important niche for creating extremely accurate digital reproductions of small and tiny parts.
"In fact, at a point of accuracy of ten microns, Artec Micro is capturing details that are four times smaller than what is visible with the average human eye. Now users can 3D scan almost any object with Artec 3D’s line of five scanners – from a tiny mechanical part with Artec Micro to a jumbo jet with Artec Ray.”
