Indie Maher Soft
Indie is the result of Maher Soft’s intention to create a reliable 3D printer at an affordable price.
Mumbai-based 3D printer manufacturer, Maher Soft has launched its latest desktop 3D printing system via an Indiegogo campaign.
Indie is the result of Maher Soft’s intention to create a reliable 3D printer at an affordable price. Wanting a cheap machine that promised quality end products, the designers at Maher Soft wanted to present a printer that produces models useful in reducing the life cycle cost of new product development. The first hundred backers will receive an Indie 3D printer for $549, half its retail price.
The new 3D printer has already successfully proven its effectiveness after Maher Soft tested the product with their existing customer 3D models. According to the company, one case study saw the team use Indie to create a scale model of a 115-metre-long piece of transport equipment for a leading transport services company in the petroleum and refinery industry.
“Unlike other Kickstarter or Indiegogo projects, our product is well beyond the conceptual and prototyping phases,” said Mohammed Khorakiwala, Maher Soft Founder. “Indie is fully-developed, fully-tested, and fully functional. Our goal is simply to rally support to secure the resources needed to ramp up production and bring Indie to desktops around the world.”

Indie enclosed chamber
Indie boasts an enclosed heated chamber and temperature sensor, to remove excess heat that reduce cracking and warping of the print.
Maher Soft say Indie will enable companies to rapidly prototype and test products, capture the interest of their clients and bring products to market faster and more affordably. Suitable for a range of industries, Indie would make it possible for surgeons to prep on a 3D-printed model of a human body part prior to surgery, architects to showcase model landscape designs to clients and automotive companies to perform functional testing on auto components.
Lightweight and compact, Indie is also suitable for DIY enthusiasts, students and makers of all sensibilities. The machine is also one of the most power-efficient in its class, consuming less than 250 watts while in operation.
The printer features a large 8” x 8” x 8” heated bed to ensure uniform heating, along with an enclosed heated chamber and temperature sensor, to remove excess heat that reduce cracking and warping of the print. This feature was of paramount importance to Maher Soft, who were determined to produce higher quality end products compared to its desktop printing competitors. Easy extruder removal also helps to achieve this primary aim by preventing damage to parts during cleaning and maintenance.
‘Emotion’ lighting add aesthetic appeal and allows the users to enjoy the print experience from a distance. High-end sensors and filters reduce voltage and current fluctuations. And replacement costs are kept low thanks to an open source platform using standardised components.
