3D printing and the fashion world are fast becoming bedfellows, recently Dita Von Teese wore the world’s first 3D printed dress based on the golden ratio and our sister site, TCT, reported that 3D printing clothes could become the norm by 2050. The London College of Fashion has decided there’s enough 3D printing fashion out there to warrant an exhibition.
The Layer by Layer show will run from 10th April – 18th May at the London College of Fashion and will feature designs from more than ten different designers ranging from eyewear to footwear.
Layer by Layer has been produced by consultancy Saint H and Fashion Digital Studio at London College of Fashion, excitingly the fashion conscious visitors will be able to see a 3D printer in full flow. Jellewer Silvia Weidenbach will run a MakerBot Replicator 2 twice daily showing, first hand, the printing process.
In collaboration with Shapeways, the exhibition will also feature a materials library to illustrate the different materials available to potential 3D printing designers.
Amongst others, featured designs at the event are as follows:
- Ron Arad’s new range of 3D printed glasses for PQ Eyewear
- Daniel Widrig's ‘wearable sculptures’, his laser-sintered polyamide jewellery is inspired by architecture and fashion
- Naim Josefi and industrial designer Souzan Yusouf's The Melonia shoe. Each shoe is printed by i.materialise according to precise foot measurements.
- Hoon Chung’s pioneering shoes, printed by EOS
