Artec 3D scanners have made it big and featured in an episode of hit US sit-com The Big Bang Theory.

In Season 6, Episode 14 'The Cooper/Kripke Inversion' stars Howard Wolowitz and Raj Koothrappali order customised figurines of themselves but are disappointed with the results.

Raj then suggests buying a second-hand 3D printer for better results and the pair 3D scan themselves and their friend Bernadette with a sensor and manufacture perfect replicas of each other in full colour.

The scanner was the Artec Eva scanner and Artec's authorised reseller Chris Strong from Rapid Scan was invited to the set to do the scanning. In the script, the characters refer to the device as a Kinect sensor, but in reality, the Kinect scans did not have the right resolution for a high-quality colour 3D print.

Big Bang Theory averages 19.2 million viewers per show, giving the Artec Eva some serious airtime. In addition to an appearance on a hit TV show, Artec 3D Scanners have been used in the production of Brad Bitt zombie blockbuster World War Z, the Chronicles of Narnia and Harry Potter.
