The Danish desktop, powder-based 3D printer manufacturer, Blueprinter, has filed for bankruptcy. After weeks of speculation about the company’s future CEO Niels Appel has sent out a letter to all partners confirming the sad news.
The company launched a machine at Euromold in 2011 and has spent the last five years building up a reasonable user-base with its technology that is designed to be a more affordable version of SLS printing. Despite good reviews of the machinery, this sort of mid-level investment has seen people holding off, either investing in cheaper lower-end machinery or waiting for the launch of technologies like HP.
“The current investors behind Blueprinter have invested a significant amount of money in building the technology,” says Niels in his letter. “The company and all the assets around that. Without them, we would never have achieved all the great things we have now. At the same time, we realise that it requires further investments to keep traction in the market. Unfortunately, it has not been possible to find new investors to continue the financing of Blueprinter.”
All activities have been suspended and its staff have been sent home, although Niels has stressed that the company is still on the lookout for potential parties to salvage this technology.
“I am obviously sorry for whatever consequences this might have for your business” Niels finishes, closing a sad chapter to a 3D printing business.
