Additive manufacturing pioneer and global engineering giant Renishaw has selected Polygonica software developed by MachineWorks, provider of CNC simulation and verification, and polygonal mesh processing software, for use by its Dental Division.

The Polygonica program is set to be integrated into Renishaw's dental manufacturing system supplied with Renishaw AM250 laser melting systems. These additive manufacturing machines are used in manufacturing dental frameworks and medical implants and prostheses in a variety of metals with complex geometries.

Polygonica Sales Manager at MachineWorks David Knight said: "We are looking forward to supporting Renishaw in their future challenges with the Polygonica solid modelling engine. For a demanding application like dental framework manufacture, it's important that the software operates efficiently in the background without having to even notice that it is there."

Polygonica will provide solid healing, boolean operations, simplification, offsetting and profile generation within Renishaw dental manufacturing systems.

"We chose Polygonica because its solid modeling and mesh healing capabilities are second to none," commented Bryan Austin, Director and General Manager of Renishaw's Dental Products Division.
