As we have seen from companies like Artec and their successful supermarket installations, body scanning is a popular 3D technology.
Spanish tech company, Grupo Sicnova has taken that popularity to the extreme by digitising the entire population of the small town of Torrequebradilla and just last month, every person in the community was presented with their own 3D printed miniature.
The first 3D town featuring scans from 300 people, was made possible with the company’s recently launched body scanner, CloneScan3D. Described as the “first massive automatic 3D body scanner", the device uses a system of infrared sensors which can scan a 3D model of a person in just 15 seconds followed by just 90 seconds for the final automatic rendering.
CloneScan3D is currently being distributed in Spain and will host several events throughout the year where people can collect a 3D model of themselves for free. The demos are being held in co-operation with Tr3sDland stories which have all been installed with CloneScan3D units offering free 3D digital image scans.
Ángel Llavero, CEO of Grupo Sicnova, says the goal is to make it possible for everyone to get their own 3D model but the company are also looking towards possibilities in medical applications and custom clothing.
Despite the move into the consumer market, over the last few months the company has been working closely with professional manufacturing markets. The team also launched its very first 3D printer back in March, the Sicnova JCR 1000, an industrial focused machine aimed at automotive, aerospace and engineering sectors that require large build volumes and high accuracy.
