Arcam has announced that it has received a major order for additive manufacturing technology.

The Swedish company - which is listed on the Stockholm Stock Exchange - will be shipping an EBM (Electron Beam Melting) system to a significant industrial group in Germany to be used for product development and materials research and development.

Arcam specialises in producing cost-efficient additive manufacturing solutions for the production of metal components - a crucial growth area for the global industrial additive manufacturing market. Arcam's 3D technology offers freedom in design combined with excellent material properties and high productivity.

CEO of Arcam Magnus René was encouraged by the order placed from Germany and stated: "This is our fourth order this year from Germany, the manufacturing heart of Europe, and further proof that our additive manufacturing technology is making its way onto the production floor."

This sets Arcam up for a good fourth quarter of the year. The company revealed its third-quarter figures last month and revealed a sales increase of more than 60 per cent - a $6.3 million (£3.9 million, €4.7 million) rise year on year. Arcam's July-September data was lower than expected, but René said that "a strong order book and positive business situation" would lay the groundwork for a "strong closing of 2013 and continued growth in 2014".
