BigRep launches ONE.5X 1-metre-cubed 3D printing system ahead of RAPID + TCT

BigRep has unveiled BigRep ONE.5X, a fully automated evolution of its 1-metre-cubed 3D printing system, ahead of RAPID + TCT.

The company has also established a co-development partnership with Massive Dimension that brings pellet-based extrusion to the BigRep platform for the first time.

BigRep's latest iteration of its 1-metre-cubed 3D printer introduces a series of automation capabilities that help to support machine setup, job queueing, and bed levelling. The XYZ autocalibration capability eliminates manual calibration steps and ensures every print 'starts from the same reliable baseline', while auto-sequential printing detects available space on the print bed and starts the next queued job automatically to allow production to keep moving without operator influence. Adaptive bed mesh levelling maps the print surface before every job, compensating for any unevenness to promise first-layer adhesion across the full bed, and a relay mode serves to switch to the second extruder automatically if the first runs out of material.

Supplementing the integration of automation features are a redesigned user interface and smarter print performance. The BigRep ONE.5X utilises a Human Machine Interface (HMI) - the same as the BigRep VIIO 250 - which is said to make the machine 'significantly more approachable' for operators at any experience level, and accepts over-the-air software updates.

The ONE.5X systems retains the dual PEX2 extruders, broader material compatibility, and flexible SWITCHPLATE print bed options from the previous ONE.5, though a new set of features are said to enable reduced setup time, prevent downtime, and improve consistency. BigRep says the machine can print at speeds up to 250 mm/s, with a new pressure advance algorithm dynamically regulating material flow during acceleration and deceleration to eliminate corner bulges, and a vibration compensation feature counteracting frame resonance at higher print speeds.

“The ONE.5X represents everything we've learned from over a decade of industrial large-format 3D printing, as well as global customer feedback,” said Jeff Olson, President, BigRep America, Inc. “All of that is distilled into a machine that delivers consistent results, regardless of an end-user’s experience level.”

BigRep ONE using the Massive Dimension MDX extruder

BigRep will exhibit the new ONE.5X machine at RAPID + TCT, where it will also host Massivie Dimension.

With Massive Dimension, BigRep is expanding into pellet-based large-scale extrusion by integrating the company’s new MDX extruder into the BigRep ONE platform.

Weighing 25% lighter than its predecessor and built with 40% fewer parts, the MDX from Massive Dimension is compact and 'designed to be serviced fast.' Its simplified architecture is said to reduce mechanical complexity, minimise failure points, and give operators faster access for troubleshooting and maintenance directly on the shop floor.

“The MDX is not just an iteration. It’s a reset,” said Tyler McNaney, Founder and CTO, Massive Dimension. “We removed complexity and reduced weight to create a more capable and more adaptable extrusion system, built for where the market is going.”

BigRep and Massive Dimension are targeting availability by the end of 2026.

The companies will be exhibiting at RAPID + TCT from Booth #2355.
