Crayon Creatures — 3D print your kids' scribbles!

Send away the adorable scrawls of your progeny and receive back a 3D printed model. I remember when it was sellotape, crepe paper and toilet rolls...

Have you ever wanted to turn a chid's wonderfully naïve scribblings into something a little more tangible and long-lasting? Or maybe a sketch of your own that, for reasons you don't need to divulge, you wanted turning into a 3D model? Of course you have. Well, now you can with Crayon Creatures!

A project by cunicode (the brain-child of designer Bernat Cuni whose Jana Teddy Bear featured in the Personalize by TCT design portfolio last month) Crayon Creations will, for €99, turn a 2D scribble into a 3D printed model.

How on earth do they do that then? Bernat Cuni exaplains: "Basically, I inflate the drawing like a balloon. Technically, I define the contour lines, create a plane where I project the drawing as a texture, then I extrude it, and finally I apply some pressure physics to soften the shape." The end result id a faithful colour replication of the original 2D sketch.

Take a look at the slideshow to see some examples of the process.
