DIY High Resolution 3D Printer on indiegogo

This system from Junior Veloso has been in the pipeline for a number of years. It aims to bring high-resolution printing to home users.

The Veloso3D 3D printer uses liquid polymers and light to create solid three dimensional models. The technology can print fine details and complex geometries, according to its developer José Oliveira Veloso.

The technology uses a digital light projection (DLP) at its heart, which is used to project the image of each layer upwards onto a glass plate. Where the liquid resin and the plate meet with the projetced light meet a hardened layer is formed.

Tentative details include:

1) Building Area: 150 mm x 112 mm x 200 mm (XYZ)

2) DLP Projector Resolution: 1024 X 768 (Native)

3) Build 'Resolution': 15 to 100 Microns Z — 147 microns XY (XY resolution can be improved by reducing the building area — this will be possible in the kit)

4) Weight: under 15 kg for complete kit

5) Size: 'Desktop printer size'

As well as the DLP printer, the Veloso3D system includes user-friendly software to help users make the most of the technology. The software will be able to:

• Manage any STL file (open and save)

• Zoom

• Show different Views for the objects (Shade, Wireframe, Shade Wire, Triangle and Bounding Box)

• Translate Object

• Rotate Object

• Rescale Objects

• Duplicate Objects

• Automate Placement (Nesting)

• Allow automatic creation of the support structures

• Slicing View

• Export Slices (BMP)

• Export Image

• Switch between milimetres and inches

• Calibrate printer

• Control printer
