E3D launches improved ObXiDian nozzle for high-temperature 3D printing applications

E3D has launched its new and improved ObXiDian 500 3D printing nozzle at Formnext.

The ObXiDian 500 is said to combine the existing benefits of the ObXiDian nozzle with the high-temperature printing application of their HTA nozzles. E3D suggests it will unlock the ability to print with ‘all materials with high abrasion resistance and boosted flow rates’.

Compatible with 3D printers from brands such as Bambu Lab, Prusa and Revo, the ObXiDian 500 is said to significantly expand nozzle life by making the primary wear points several orders of magnitude more wear-resistant than other steel nozzles on the market. Compared to its standard ObXiDian nozzle, the wear performance is five times greater.

A state-of-the-art coating is also applied to the nozzle, preventing filament buildup with its low surface energy and making it easier to clean the nozzle between prints. E3D also says a four channel internal nozzle modification of the high flow variants improves heat transfer through the filament to allow for a 70% boost in volumetric flow rate, while the hot end also maintains interlayer adhesion strength at high speeds.

Clare Difazio, Head of Commercial at E3D, said: “ObXiDian 500’s predecessor, ObXidian, has been by far and above the most popular variant of all our performance-focused nozzles since it was launched in 2022, selling over 250k products to date. We are delighted to be able to enhance the user’s experience even further with this latest iteration of the coating and it’s a testament to our high regard and trust from the industry that we’re launching ranges for two of the most popular printer brands, Bambu Lab and Prusa.”

Mike Sherlock, Principal Design Engineer at E3D, added: “We’ve been experts in the FDM field since the company was formed in 2013 and our mission has always been to change the way humanity manufactures goods. To achieve this objective we are always innovating our product ranges to ensure the best possible upgrades for users and ObXiDian 500 is no exception. We've combined the best features from each of our previous generations of abrasive-resistant nozzles and made them even better. With its game-changing features like extreme wear resistance, longevity, pristine print output, and high temperature printing capabilities we’re sure it will be as popular as the well-respected ObXidian range.”

E3D is exhibiting from Hall 12.1, Stand B38 at Formnext.
