Hobs 3D, a 3D printing service bureau, has announced the purchase of assets relating to Canon UK’s 3D printing business.
Over recent years, Canon has been reselling professional 3D printers, providing service support and consumables to a broad range of clients across the UK. The company entered the 3D printing space in 2015, agreeing to distribute 3D Systems machines, and later that year Canon Europe joined the 3D Printing Association, and also launched a concept resin-based 3D printer, of which nothing came. Then last week, Canon announced an alumina-based ceramic material suited to selective laser melting and a new parts production technology, with the intention on building on this portfolio to expand its use into the medical sector.
Today, Hobs 3D investment into the company's UK 3D printing business has been confirmed.
“Canon remains committed to pursuing all the growth opportunities we have within our Industrial & Production Solutions business,” commented Dominic Fahy, Head of AEC & Manufacturing, Canon UK. “To ensure that each of our customers receives the best experience for managing their 3D printing operation going forward, we chose to work with leading company Hobs 3D. We are happy that our customers are in excellent hands given the company’s long relationship with Canon and proven ability to deliver a high standard of service. We look forward to a continued strong partnership with Hobs 3D.”
Hobs 3D has long been offering a 3D printing service, which they use alongside traditional model-making methods to create architectural models and prototypes. They also provide a range of 3D visualisation services including a ground breaking multi-sensory virtual reality platform, VRCUB3D.
James Duckenfield, Hobs Group CEO added: “We are delighted to be able to support the excellent client base Canon has built up over recent years. We look forward to being of service to these customers with day-to-day equipment support and consumables, as well as advice on how to get the most out of their equipment from our first-hand experience gained from our 3D printing bureau service.”
