Long known for high-quality open-source extrusion-based machinery, Colorado-based 3D printer manufacturer, LulzBot has dropped a few hints about a product launch in its latest company newsletter.
The newsletter's blurb has some not so subtle hints towards a technology that is set to launch in September this year. Pictured with a high-resolution omnipresent rook model and a blurred machine in the background it is clear that parent company Aleph Objects is launching a laser-based resin 3D printing system.
Aleph Objects has grown from a technology manufacturer for hobbyists into an Inc. 500 company whose workhorse machinery is being tested by the US Marines for use on the battlefield.
A stereolithography system manufactured by Lulzbot is certain to be something to be excited about after building up a reliable and innovative brand. It is also safe to assume, thanks to Aleph Objects dedication to the cause, that a new system will be open-source - Lulzbot became the first ever hardware product to receive the Respects Your Freedom (RYF) certification from the Free Software Foundation.
There's plenty of competition in the field of affordable resin-based 3D printing systems, with Formlabs a market-leader but it will be interesting to see what Lulzbot bring to the stereolithography table.
After launching the LulzBot Mini 2 at RAPID + TCT earlier this year, the September launch of the new resin-based machine will be its second launch this year. Stereolithography being the gold-standard when it comes to resolution also means this launch fits in with the company's debut at the industrial trade show, IMTS 2018, which takes place in Chicago from 10-15 of that month.
