MakerBot and big launches at International CES go hand-in-hand, they were the first 3D printing company to come to the show and last year they launched their three new 3D printers.
This year is a little scaled back in terms of launches but what is clear is MakerBot’s dedication to becoming synonymous with 3D printing quality and usability.
This years stand feels a lot more Stratasys (i.e. professional) than the NYC Resistor start-up that, just five years ago launched their wooden-framed thing-o-matic at the show.
Materials is a key focus for MakerBot this year and the announcement is that their launching four new types of material this year to increase the ever-expanding material range that you can print with.
The big four releases are Limestone, Iron, Maple and Bronze all coming in late 2015 and all aimed at changing the way you think about 3D printing.
Though the open-source community have been 3D printing with composite materials for a while this often required a great deal of tinkering and extensions for temperature control to 3D printers. The MakerBot composites will work right of the box.
The uses for these kind of materials are vast and users who may not have been interested in an open-sourced solution, sculptors, jewellers etc now will be able to pick up a filament and a printer and get started on new projects right away.
