How medical 3D printing is changing lives

Deputy Group Editor, Laura Griffiths caught a few moments with Prof. Tsung-Yuan Tsai from the Shanghai Ninth People’s Hospital following his formnext powered by tct 2016 keynote.

The second day of this year's formnext powered by tct conference began with a keynote presentation from Prof. Tsung-Yuan Tsai at the Shanghai Ninth People’s Hospital on how 3D printing has been applied at the hospital in some amazing case studies from hip replacements to helping a young girl walk for the first time in her life.

In this interview, Prof. Tsai talks about how the hospital is uniquely positioned to offer life-changing treatment thanks to 3D technologies such as 3D scanning and 3D printing and also talks us through the “four levels” of 3D printing in the medical sector including surgical devices all the way through to bioprinting. Dr. Tsai also provides us with real-life examples of how these technologies are opening up a world of opportunity for surgeons.
