The swashbuckling Pirate3D are going donation crazy, not content with the pledges to African Institutions they've promised at least ten printers to public libraries.

Shiver me timbers, as if the swashbuckling gents at Pirate 3D weren’t being generous enough, what with that low RRP and the donating printers to African institutions, they’ve gone and dedicated printers to selected public libraries.

“We will start by donating 10 units of the Buccaneer 3D printers to public libraries interested in promoting 3D printing technologies to their community,” said Roger Chang, co-founder & CEO of Pirate3D. “We will give out more Buccaneers as we grow our company. We welcome the public and well wishers to participate too.”

Pirate3D seem to be over compensating fore their blood-curdling name by being the most charitable desktop 3D printing company we know of. In fact far from being Pirates they’re the opposite of pirates (which yahoo answers reliably informs me is a Ninja).

The official company vision is “democratizing innovation, fostering creativity, and facilitating entrepreneurship”, and what with all these charitable donations they’re certainly living up to that reputation. They’re not stopping there either as they’ve announced “Massive Open Online Courses” (MOOCs) teaching youngsters and adults alike how to design and print in 3D.

“MOOCs is the latest tool for us to reach out to the masses searching for the opportunities to prepare themselves for the coming industrial revolution as mentioned by the Economist magazine,” said Prof. Neo Kok Beng, co-founder of Pirate3D

And to think less than a month ago some people were suggesting this could be vaporware…
