Resoluut's 'Incredible' models

As if it isn't cool enough that you get your own super hero design at Dutch digital agency Resoluut, now your business card is a 3D printed model.

Dutch app and website agency Resoluut have come up with a nifty little 3D printed business card (of sorts). The agency likes to ‘toonify their staff into superhero characters and display them all over the website. It sets them apart from the usual ‘our team’ bumf you see on most websites.

As if that wasn’t creative enough they’re super heroes, which reflect each employee’s personality, have been turned into real life action figurines complete with the individual’s email address on the base.

Nanning de Jong of 3Dwergen was the man tasked with turning the 2D drawings into 3D models, this is what he told us:

"Micha, Resoluut's Creative Director, asked me if it was possible to make physical 3D action hero's based on those cartoons. Micha was already fascinated by 3D printing and understood the potential to use it as a marketing innovation. His idea was a good challenge for me and my team at 3Dwergen! www.3Dwergen.nl

I have two 3D designers in my team and together we transformed the 2D cartoons into 3D models. As we only had the front-facing cartoons, we had to make our artist impression of the back / sideviews in the 3D model. We paid a lot of attention to positions, shapes and colors of the original, so that the style would match.

"Then we got the models printed on a Z-Corp full color 3D printer and got the spacehelmet 3D printed with a transparent SLA resin. So the models were not hand painted, but came out of the printer complete. Watch the video.

Micha kept the project hidden for his employees until he could give them the real 3D printed models. It was great to see the surprise on their faces. Priceless!!! Micha tells me that his customers also really like it! "

We love novel uses for 3D printing and complete customisation like this is what consumer 3D printing should all be about at the moment despite what those doom merchants at Defcad say.
