Stratasys has kicked off its 10th annual Extreme Redesign 3D Printing Challenge, a contest that has awarded more than $100,000 (£63,613) in scholarship money to students for their innovative designs.
One decade after the first Extreme Redesign 3D Printing Challenge, the 3D printing industry giant is inviting students all over the world to submit inventive new product designs, original or redesigned works of art or architecture and redesigns of existing products to be in with a chance of winning a cash prize.
Design entries are created on 3D CAD software to be 3D printed and Stratasy will award either $2,500 or $1,000 in scholarship money to the top three student winners in each of the categories of Middle School and High School Engineering, College Engineering and Art & Architecture. Designs are awarded based on their usefulness, creativity, part integrity and overall appearance. Instructors of the first-place student winner in each category will receive a limited-time demo 3D printer to use in the classroom.
Ever since the first contest, more than $100,000 in scholarships has been awarded to students. Students at middle school, high school and college level are eligible to participate in the design challenge, and the winning submissions are awarded with scholarship money.
Each submission must:
- Be of a sound mechanical design
- Be realistic and achievable
- And include a clear written description of the design.
Furthermore, this latest challenge will feature the bonus award category, “Extreme Sports,” in which students may compete for an additional prize. Students whose designs are intended for use in a sporting activity will have a chance to win a $250 gift card.
