A new dawn for 3D printed composite materials with EnvisionTEC

Founder and CEO of EnvisionTEC, Al Siblani, talks to TCT at RAPID about the company’s newly launched SLCOM 1 3D Printer

The new technology, Selective Lamination of Composite Object Manufacturing (SLCOM), allows you to build thermoplastic reinforced composites with different types of fibres.

Siblani says that one of the reasons EnvisionTEC decided to enter this totally new marketing comparison to its mainly resin based 3D printing to date, is that they wanted to get into an area of high-strength production parts and felt that the metals market was too overcrowded.

He goes on to suggest with some incredible stats that the likes of aerospace manufactures spend in excess of 50% on composites, making this seem like a very clever manoeuvre from a company that always strives to stay ahead of the game.
