How would you assess the track record of Apple. Of General Motors (GM)? And
of Marvel?
You would, rightly, consider them to be successful businesses. Leaders in their respective fields, game-changers even, perhaps even cultural phenomena. The kinds of businesses any entrepreneur would aspire to and the kind of blue-chip brands we love to feature in this magazine.
There’s a kudos and a gravitas to these names. A confidence, by now, that they could be around forever.
And how do we consider the likes of Velo3D, BCN3D or EnvisionTec? Failures. Pretenders. Doomed firms that have been circling the drain for a while. Their demise, in whatever fashion it came – a public market delisting, a bankruptcy, being consumed by a sinking ship – was only a matter of time.
