The 3D Print Cup is back!
Hosted by the cartridgesave.co.uk, creative minds - be they professional or amateur - are being called upon to use their imaginations and technical skills to be in with a chance of winning a 3D printer.
The task: to make the ultimate 3D action hero complete with moving parts.
Artists, designers, students and hobbyists of all ages and from anywhere in the world are invited to register online to participate in this annual competition, which aims to coax the very best creative brain who could be in with a chance of winning a new generation MakerBot Replicator 3D printer worth more than £2,000
Last year cartridgesave.co.uk hosted the UK's first 3D Print Cup, using Manchester’s thriving Northern Quarter as a launch pad. With more than 100 entries from the UK, Spain and USA the competition was won by North-West based designer, Jonathan Salter with his creation praised by judges 3D modeler Andrew Hickinbottom, Grammy Award nominated illustrator Stanley Chow, self-taught 3D printing expert Mike Mead and Laura Sanderson, senior lecturer at The Manchester School of Architecture.
This year, along with challenging entrants with an extended brief to push their 3D printing know-how to the next level, the 2014 3D Print Cup will also expand its entry window from two weeks to two months to allow as many enthusiasts to take part as possible.
In addition to providing a forum for creatives to explore the emerging technology, the competition will:
- Hold networking events
- Ensure all entrants have a chance to see their design in 3D
- And offer, for many, the first opportunity to get hands-on experience of the latest printing technology.
Experience in 3D printing or design is not essential to take part. Cartridgesave.co.uk will be offering a match-up facility enabling entrants to forge a crack team. The only requirements are imagination and an enthusiasm to explore the opportunities around 3D printing.
All entries will be printed ahead of the awards night and given back to their designers to finish ahead of the party ultimate showdown on 10th July.
Designers are encouraged to attend interactive events in Manchester to benefit from talks by industry pioneers, meet with like-minded creative talents and gain top tips in order to take on their peers. Register at www.cartridgesave.co.uk/3dprint cup.
How To videos and technical master classes will also be made available during the competition period.
Ian Cowley, Managing Director of cartridgesave.co.uk, commented: "Last year's cup really captured the imagination of creatives keen to experience this rapidly emerging technology first hand. We already know we untapped some serious talent in the tiny two week window last year - we can’t wait to see what happens when we extend entry to two months."
