Renishaw trains and mentors graduates, before employing them full time after two years.
Renishaw’s graduate scheme has been heralded as the UK’s number one in the engineering and manufacturing sector for companies taking more than 30 alumnae a year.
The company was recognised at the JobCrowd Awards, which is informed by anonymous reviews from graduate employees across the UK. Renishaw was also listed 42nd overall in the top 100 graduate schemes across all sectors.
Offering eight graduate pathways, which include application engineers, manufacturing engineer, mechanical engineer and software engineer streams, Renishaw has a comprehensive offering for new entries into the world of work. The schemes run for two years, in which time participants are trained and mentored. Once the two years is up, the graduate takes a permanent position at the company.
The graduate scheme at Renishaw has been established in a bid to combat the skills gap which has raised major concerns in the engineering and manufacturing sectors. Renishaw projects around 186,000 people with engineering skills will be required annually through 2024 within the UK, and so through its training and mentoring is doing its bit to shorten the gap.
It has not gone unnoticed. JobCrowd recognised Renishaw as the leader in its field for graduate intake, and among the top 100 overall. Last year, it also highly commended the company’s graduate employees benefits package, which sees them benefit from a 9% non-contributory pension, annual pay rises, discretionary bonuses, BUPA healthcare and an on-site gym.
But it’s the training that is going to have the most impact on industry, and as it prepares to accept 60 more graduates across the eight streams later this year, there’s a continued commitment at Renishaw to create and maintain a production line of engineering talent in the company itself, but also the wider industry.
“Renishaw’s graduate scheme is a challenging, rewarding opportunity that offers the potential for rapid progressions,” commented Sam Bishop, Learning and Development Advisor at Renishaw. “The company’s CEO, Will Lee, joined Renishaw as a graduate in 1997. A position at Renishaw can take you almost anywhere in the world, working in industries as diverse as neurosurgery to additive manufacturing.
“We provide our graduates with a deep understanding of the business, its international operations and experience across different divisions. Alongside this, graduates join a company with a real community atmosphere and excellent benefits. The JobCrowd Awards provide recognition for the work we have done to ensure our graduate programme is one of the best in the country.”
“Being part of the Renishaw Graduate Scheme has given me the opportunity to work on exciting projects and develop my engineering skills in lots of different areas,” added Julia Fletcher, Graduate Engineer at Renishaw. “I have really enjoyed being able to work with so many people, both on and off the Scheme and seeing how my work can be applied to real world problems.”
