Dr Jeffrey Graves is stepping down as President and CEO of 3D Systems and is also retiring from the Board of Directors.

The company expects to appoint a replacement before the end of 2026.

Graves will continue to serve as CEO and President until that point, and will then also serve in a consulting capacity for six months to facilitate an effective transition.

3D Systems has stated that this CEO transition announcement is being made in conjunction with the company’s release of its second quarter 2026 financial results. In Q2 2026, 3D Systems reported that revenue was down 0.3% year-over-year, though up 1.4% once you remove the revenue generated by the divested Geomagic, 3DXpert, and Oqton businesses in 2025. Overall, the company recorded a net loss of $12.9m for the quarter, a significant difference from the $104m net profit this time last year - though that was helped by the sale of Geomagic for $125.7m. Healthcare revenues are up 6.8% year-over-year and aerospace & defence revenues are up by more than 20%.

In the announcement of these results, published on August 3rd, Graves noted that, "as the additive manufacturing industry continues to emerge from a multi-year downturn, our sustained investments in research and development are now enabling us to introduce a broad portfolio of new products that are gaining increasing customer traction. While the global economic environment remains uncertain, we are optimistic that, as capital investment activity strengthens, we are well positioned to benefit from the resulting expansion in global manufacturing capacity.”

He did not state or allude to his impending departure, which was announced on August 4th. Per 3D Systems, its Board of Directors has now initiated a comprehensive search process to identify its next President and CEO and has engaged an executive search firm to lead this process.

Since joining 3D Systems in May 2020, Graves has led a series of cost reduction, M&A, and divestiture initiatives as the company has sought to enhance its financial performance. This has included the high-profile sales of Quickparts and its software portfolio.

“I am proud of the progress the Company has made over the last six years and grateful to have had the opportunity to work alongside the talented employees of 3D Systems,” said Graves. “It has been a privilege to serve our customers and shareholders, and I am confident that the Company is well positioned to build on this foundation and capitalise on the exciting opportunities in the industry ahead. I remain fully committed to leading the Company during this time and supporting a seamless transition.”

“On behalf of the Board, I would like to thank Jeff for his leadership and contributions to 3D Systems,” said Chip McClure, Chairman of the Board. “Over the past several years, the Company has made meaningful progress in strengthening its operating foundation, sharpening its strategic focus, and positioning the business for long-term profitability and growth. We are grateful for Jeff’s service to the Company and for his support during this transition to ensure a seamless handoff of leadership responsibilities.”
