Medical Modeling Joins 3D Systems
See how Medical Modeling begins a new leg of its journey as a part of 3D Systems. Combining their knowledge and strength, 3D Systems and Medical Modeling will turbocharge efforts toward personalized surgery, advanced medical modeling, interactive medical imaging, and more.
3D Systems has made further inroads into the growing 3D printed medical devices sector with its latest acquisition.
The industry juggernaut has announced it is acquiring Medical Modeling, a leading provider of patient-specific medical devices and personalised surgical treatments, including surgical planning and clinical transfer tools, using 3D modeling and 3D printing technology.
3D technologies are transforming the medical industry, particularly in the fields of reconstruction, orthotics and prosthetics and 3D Systems anticipates that this important business deal will be instantly accretive to its net income.
Medical Modeling pioneered 3D printing-centric personalised surgery and patient-specific medical device solutions with FDA-cleared manufacturing processes. The Colorado-headquartered company has helped tens of thousands of patients who have had medical procedures requiring surgical planning tools, implants and other design services.
Furthermore, 3D Systems announced that it plans to consolidate all of its current healthcare endeavours into a single unit under the leadership of Medical Modeling President Andy Christensen, who has been named Vice-President of Personalized Surgery and Medical Devices at 3D Systems.
President and CEO of 3D Systems Avi Reichental said: "The combination of our rapidly growing healthcare business with Medical Modeling’s expanding range of products and services creates the largest 3D printing based personalised surgery. By leveraging our collective expertise, technologies and channels under the capable leadership of Andy Christensen, we plan to deliver an expanding range of direct metal and plastic medical devices designed to address this rapidly expanding opportunity."
Christensen added: "We are thrilled to become part of 3D Systems. We already use most of 3D Systems' leading professional design-to-manufacturing tools including its Geomagic® Freeform® modelling software and haptic tools and advanced manufacturing stereolithography and ColorJet Printing professional-grade 3D printers. Working with surgeons around the world on tens of thousands of patient cases gives us a unique perspective on surgical planning opportunities that, together with 3D Systems technology platform and resources, could accelerate our global growth and enhance overall patient outcomes."
