One of the biggest, and perhaps premature concerns about 3D printing is that it will replace the need for manual labour and take manufacturing jobs away from people. Well 3D printing giant, 3D Systems, has proved just the opposite and created hundreds of new jobs with brand new 200,000 square foot manufacturing facility in South Carolina.
The company previously announced an expansion to their premises claiming it will generate hundreds of jobs over time. The addition of this new manufacturing and distribution facility looks like it will do just that and has been put into place to meet the growing demand for its 3D printers and materials.
3D Systems, President and CEO, Avi Reichental, said, “Our continued Rock Hill expansion underscores our commitment to localised manufacturing, demonstrating through our actions that what is designed locally can be built locally. This investment is in direct response to the growing demand for our professional printers."
The premises in Rock Hill will provide a platform for 3D Systems to strengthen their manufacturing and distributing operations with all existing processes in the area. The company’s research and development team will also benefit from this as they plan to expand existing operations into its current headquarters.
3D Systems have been developing the Rock Hill area in several ways over the last few months. It recently opened the Rock Hill 3D innovation and learning centre, an initiative designed to showcase the growing impact of advanced manufacturing in some of its key industries including medical, education, aerospace, automotive and also the 3D printed lifestyle. The interactive centre showcases the endless possibilities with 3D printing through a range of 3D Systems products, tools and solutions, used around the world.
The new manufacturing and distribution facility is set to be open and fully operational by the first quarter of 2015.
