3D Systems has announced it has completed its acquisition of Simbionix, global leader in 3D virtual reality surgical simulation, accelerating the creation of a personalised healthcare platform.
Back in July we reported on 3D Systems initial acquisition of Simbionix for $120 million in cash and this week they have confirmed that acquirement is now finalised. This expands 3D Systems active healthcare portfolio with further combined resources and expertise covering surgical training right through to the operating room, which currently help thousands of patients on an annual basis.
“The acquisition of Simbionix extends our first mover advantage in the fast growing field of 3D printing enabled personalised medicine,” said Avi Reichental, President and CEO of 3D Systems. “Simbionix brings powerful technology, products, channels and domain expertise that complement our healthcare offerings and enhance our seamless digital thread for patient-specific healthcare.”
Going forward, Simbionix will continue to operate under the continued leadership of Gary Zamler, Simbionix CEO. With headquarters in Cleveland, Ohio and a research and development centre in Israel, Simbionix has been at the forefront of pioneering patient specific applications for surgery preparation. Their portfolio includes 16 simulation platforms with over 60 interventional procedures across eight specialities.
