Additive Industries to host second 3D Printing design challenge

Dutch additive manufacturing newcomer, Additive Industries is to host the second edition of the Additive World Design for Manufacturing Challenge, designed to grow the number of examples and inspire other industries to develop dedicated applications for industrial 3D printing.

Competing in two categories, both professionals and students are encouraged to redesign an existing conventional part of a machine or product for 3D printing. The winners will be announced at the Additive World Conference on 23rd March 2016 in Eindhoven.

Partners in the Design for Additive Manufacturing Challenge are leading CAE technology provider (e.g. Topology Optimisation) - Altair Engineering and consumer 3D printer manufacturer Ultimaker. The contestants will be supported by Additive Industries’ AddLab team in topology optimisation and winners in both categories will take home the latest Ultimaker 2 3D printer and award – 3D printed in metal of course. The deadline for entries is the 29th February.

Additive Industries recently unveiled its metal AM system, the MetalFAB1, at formnext powered by tct. In development since 2012, the MetalFAB1 is Additive Industries’ first truly industrial 3D metal printing system and offers substantially improved performance over typical midrange systems. In fact the company claims the MetalFAB1 and integrates Additive World software delivers 10x better reproducibility, productivity and flexibility of similar current systems.

Additive World is an initiative from Additive Industries designed to bring together people from various industries and accelerate the learning curve for additive technologies. This year’s Additive World Conference will be the 4th edition of the event and takes place 22-24 March 2016.
