Professional 3D printing system developer, BigRep has announced a strategic production partnership with Heidelberg Digital Platforms to build its BigRep STUDIO 3D printer.
After thousands of hours of beta testing, construction of the machine began this month. Having Heidelberg Digital Platforms on board is set to allow BigRep to concentrate its efforts on the marketing of the machine, as well as customer support for its latest product.
BigRep believes the alliance with the Heidelberg Druckmaschinen AG division represents an important strategic step on its way to becoming a leading supplier of additive manufacturing platforms. The Kreuzberg-based company expects to benefit from its new partner’s experience in industrialisation, product validation and flexible production.
The BigRep STUDIO brings with it speed, precision and reliability, per a BigRep press release. Its newly developed print head extruder is said to be able to process a variety of high-temperature filaments and flexible materials. Meanwhile, its size and functionality means it has the potential for use in smaller workspaces, like a standard office.
Heidelberg is assembling the BigRep STUDIOs at its Wiesloch-Walldorf location. Such are the terms of the partnership, Heidelberg will be responsible for the logistics of delivery to customers worldwide, including order management as a service. BigRep expects an increase in productivity to result from the partnership, as well as reducing time-to-market.
“The strategic partnership with Heidelberg gives us the opportunity to focus on efficiently developing our portfolio,” commented Dr Stephan Beyer, CFO of BigRep.
Josef Schell, Head of Digital Platforms at Heidelberg, added: “With this cooperation, we’re contributing to the development of industrial 3D printing, as well as the digitalisation of traditional production processes.”
