CGTech and SGS Carbide Tool sign agreement
After signing a technical partnership agreement with CGTech, SGS Carbide has become the latest Tooling Partner with the developer of the world's leading independent CNC simulation and optimisation software, VERICUT.
The full version of VERICUT 7.2.1 will be installed at the specialist solid carbide cutting tool company's Technical Centre, in its recently opened European Headquarters in Wokingham.
CGTech's Managing Director, John Reed, commented: "Like SGS, we provide the opportunity for manufacturing companies to improve their productivity and effectiveness. Both companies share customers that form the leading technical edge in their industry sectors, which includes aerospace, motorsport, marine, oil and gas, medical, power generation, and general precision engineering. The technical partnership will allow us to work together, for mutual benefits to both partners."
CGTech’s VERICUT software has become the industry standard for simulating CNC machining in order to detect errors, potential collisions, or areas of inefficiency. It is used by companies of all sizes, universities/technical schools and colleges and Government agencies in more than 55 countries. VERICUT eliminates the process of manually proving-out NC programs. It reduces scrap loss and rework. The program also optimises NC programs in order to both save time and produce higher quality surface finish.
VERICUT simulates all types of CNC machine tools, including those from leading manufacturers, at SGS the software will be used to check the NC programs for the latest DMG/Mori Seiki DMU 50 5-axis machining centre. VERICUT runs standalone, but can also be integrated with all leading CAM systems, including the Delcam PowerMill software used to generate CNC code by the technical staff at SGS.
Managing Director, SGS Carbide Tool, Alan Pearce, stated: "Our Technical Centre has been established to support key customers in all these sectors with the programming of, and cutting tool trials for, existing components as well as providing the opportunity to test SGS cutting tools on new projects. We know our customers trust VERICUT to protect their machine tools and optimise their efficiency, making the decision to become a Tooling Partner very straightforward."
The latest version of the software includes several new features that make routine tasks simpler and therefore faster. New features include improved multi-processor utilisation, which is approximately 50 per cent faster. Also, the display processing is performed in the background so VERICUT's desktop continues to be active.
Faster gouge checking is achieved with an invisible design model, which can be used in AUTO-DIFF. This prevents the design model from getting in the way and making it difficult to visually identify some gouges. Also, Constant Gouge Check is now quickly configured via the Project Tree's Collision branch.
Additional tool options in the new version of the software include faceted STL files that can be used as a cutter directly in VERICUT with no other interaction or conversion required. Imported CAD tool assemblies do not require edge profiles. Also, tool assemblies can be made from reference components such as holders, inserts, and end mills. Users can also reference tool assemblies that were created from reference components. Also, when more than one NC programmer is using a tool library, the tool library can be locked to one user while still available in 'Read Only' to an unlimited number of users. This prevents two users from inadvertently modifying the same tool library file.
With every release, all library NC controls are updated to support the new VERICUT features. There are also new control features added regularly. As one control example, users of the popular Siemens 840D control, fitted to the 5-axis machining centre at SGS, may benefit from: Axis Mapping that switches VERICUT’s motion axes between different components CYCLE800 with PARTFRAME separates frame rotation from axis rotation; Indirect G-code programming commands via G-code index; and, convert numbers from binary or hexadecimal.
