CEL's Robox 3D printer.
Stating it’s potential to become a mass-market product, Currys PC World is the latest retailer in the UK to stock CEL’s Robox 3D printer.
Bringing 3D printing even closer to the consumer market, the electrical products giant will sell the desktop machine at £999 along with a range CEL filament spools at £39.99 each.
Rachel Wareham, Category Manager at DixonsCarphone, commented: “With Robox you can go from unboxing to printing in a matter of minutes and the software even integrates one of the biggest libraries of 3D models on the web, so there’s no searching around for models to print, either. Robox has the potential to be a mass-market product – it works like magic, looks great and is incredible value-for-money.”
Robox is described as the first truly plug and print 3D printer and the company recently launched the first full version of its AutoMaker 3D software complete with MyMiniFactory integration. The software provides users with access to a vast library of free 3D printable files and incorporates the open source Cura slicing engine to enable faster, better quality prints. This combination of “out of the box” 3D printing and access to 3D files means that even users without CAD knowledge can experience the technology with ease.
Chris Elsworthy, CEO of CEL, commented: “Currys PC World’s decision to stock Robox is a fantastic validation of what we’ve envisaged and how far we’ve come. But reaching this milestone does not mean it’s ‘mission accomplished’ for us here at CEL; we’re continually improving Robox’s hardware and software, we’ve got some fantastic new accessories due to be released later this year, and more orders to fulfil than we thought possible at this point in time. It’s great to add Currys PC World to the list of our supporters and with their help we feel more confident than ever that we will soon see 3D printers in homes and schools as well as workshops and offices.”
This is not the first time Currys PC World has brought 3D printing to the high street. The company previously stocked 3D System's Cube 3D printer and continues to list 3D System's Cubify PLA filament in its online store.
Robox is also currently available via high street electrical retailer Maplin and through other specialist channels; Farnell, CREAT3D, PrintMe3D, 3D-Printworld.co.uk and Kitronik.
