New hybrid concept saves material and energy
Cybaman Technologies is set to launch its new Laser Metal Deposition System at Euromold 2014.
The brand new machine is based upon the company’s award winning Cybaman Digital Manufacturing Platform originally designed as a high precision subtractive machining system, the ideal platform for additive manufacturing.
The 6-axis machine, now has the capability to operate as an additive manufacturing system, using laser direct metal deposition or to be used as a hybrid additive and subtractive machining system.
The Metal Additive Layer Manufacturing process has seen significant growth within a number of areas in recent years including the aerospace, automotive and healthcare sectors.
The machine combats the problems faced with other additive layer manufacturing systems, which require specialist metal powders, by implementing a wide range of readily available standard metal wires to achieve volume deposition with multiple metals. Current materials include; steels, steel alloys and titanium but this range is set to grow as the concept grows.
The results are real functional metal prototypes similar in strength and quality to traditionally manufactured wrought and cast alloys. Typical build rates are anticipated at 10 and 150 cm3 per hour depending on the product.
This new hybrid concept will minimise the amount of material and energy required to produce a near net shaped component. By combining both traditional additive and subtractive processes in one machine, the user’s output is reduced significantly by saving on secondary finishing and offering increased flexibility.
Cybaman will unveil the new machine at EuroMold, Frankfurt Exhibition Centre from 25th-28th November.
