Digital design novices will get the chance of a lifetime to immerse themselves in this emerging technology at a fantastic international event in New York City this month.
DesignX is a series of hands-on workshops, which will be held concurrent with the International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF) in the Big Apple on May 18th-21st.
The entry-level classes aim to involve attendees in a dialogue about the latest in digital design tools. The seminars are being held in a purpose-built classroom in the Jacob K Javits Convention Centre and will range between one and two hours in length.
Classes start at $69 per session and are suitable for everybody from professional designers and artists, to hobbyists and makers.
Tools and techniques such as 3D printing, cloud collaboration and 3D design for production represents the cutting edge of contemporary design practices, while software applications such as photo and video editing have been adopted more and more into home and professional use in recent years.
3D applications such as prototyping and modelling may still feel out of some creatives' reaches, regardless of their experience levels. DesignX will offer attendees basic-to-intermediate instruction necessary to bring these techniques into their professional practice and lives.
TED Fellow Skylar Tibbits is set to teach one seminar entitled Matter Programmers: 4D Printing & Bio-Molecular Self Assembly. His presentation is aimed at lateral-thinking designers and artists with the potential for objects that construct themselves into more complex forms once exposed to heat, water or air.
Designer Francis Bitoni - famed for the world-renowned 3D-printed Dita Von Teese dress - is set to hold the 3D Printed Fabrics talk, in which the professional will introduce the capabilities for 3D printing within textiles to intrepid inventors. Manufacturers and fashion designers as a means of integrating intricate texturing and forms into fabric.
And in a third example of the seminars attendees can look forward to, Gil Akos and Ronnie Parsons at Mode Lab will discuss the basics of translating a digital model into a physical object from your home through rapid prototyping. The session will even include a hands-on demonstration of desktop 3D printing.
