Following the launch of Carbon’s M1 machine earlier this month, the Silicon Valley 3D printing startup has welcomed a new member to its Board of Directors, former Chair and CEO of DuPont, Ellen J. Kullman.
Kullman, who has been ranked on Forbes’ list of The World’s 100 Most Powerful Women, joins Carbon as the seventh member of its board. Having previously served as the first female CEO in DuPont’s 200-year history, Kullman was responsible for leading the chemical giant into the 21st century with a focus on global science advancement, tripling the company’s stock price since in the process and also elected Chair of the Board.
“Ellen brings unparalleled experience in market and supply chain development, having led DuPont for over six years, and will bring incredible value to our team,” Dr. Joseph DeSimone, CEO and Co-Founder of Carbon, commented. “Her commitment to innovation in science and engineering, and excellence as a business leader make her a natural fit for our Board of Directors.”
Kullman, added: “I am excited to join the Carbon board and look forward to contributing to the company’s continued growth. I believe Carbon’s technology will be a catalyst for the creation of a new vertical within the chemical industry, driving product and business model innovation in industries as varied as automotive, consumer products, medical and more.”
Kullman also sits on the Board of Directors of United Technologies and is a trustee of Tufts University where she is an overseer of the School of Engineering and holds her Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering. She is also a member of the Business Council and the National Academy of Engineering, where she co-chaired the Committee on Changing the Conversation.
With an established figure like Kullman on the board and global names like Ford and Johnson & Johnson already using Carbon's groundbreaking CLIP technology, the company has come a long way from its initial Terminator-comparisons and ‘fastest 3D printer in the world’ hype to establish itself as a company that's focused on materials science, leveraging "real chemistry" to offer real end-use applications.
