EOS, market leader for integrated e-Manufacturing solutions for Additive Manufacturing has joined with plasmo Industrietechnik to develop a high-performance online monitoring solution for additive manufacturing.
With Melt Pool Monitoring concept, the two companies aim to develop the online process for monitoring Direct Metal Laser Sintering to minimise risks and reduce costs to customers.
With headquarters in Vienna, plasmo has been supplying automated quality assurance systems to the manufacturing industry since 2003 through tailor made systems that cater to customer specific applications.
Dr. Tobias Abeln, Technical Director at EOS, said: “We have been working successfully with plasmo for some time now. With their know-how they are accompanying us as an expert partner in a field of manufacturing and process monitoring on our road towards additive series manufacturing.”
plasmo uses a monitoring system called fastprocessobserver in association with dominant algorithms which are specifically designed to target the dynamics in additive manufacturing.
Technical Director at plasmo, Dr. Thomas Grunberger, said: “Process know-how from EOS coupled with our expertise in the field of optical quality control systems results in solutions that fulfil requirements in additive manufacturing perfectly.”
plasmo has a wide portfolio of customers across a number of industries including Tokyo Steel, Audi, Suzuki, Volvo and Volkswagen and EOS hopes to combine their expertise with plasmo’s experience.
Abeln added: “The key to successful process monitoring is the intelligence of the system. Many are able to record data. Understanding the data correctly and evaluating it appropriately brings the decisive added value. Our goal is to set new benchmarks in this field and we are very pleased to have found the optimum partner for this is plasmo.”
