Mantis Vision's F5 3D scanner
The development of leading, custom 3D scanning solutions is the aim of a new business partnership.
Global electronics design, fabrication, assembly and test company Flextronics has revealed that its hardware venture operations Lab IX has joined forces with 3D imaging company Mantis Vision to achieve scalable delivery of customer 3D scanning solutions.
Mantis Vision's core technology - known as MV4D - is designed to enable motion-capable 3D capture for depth sensing, smart object measurement and recognition, as well as the generation of 3D models.
Flextronics' Lab IX will provide vital support to Mantis Vision for the continued manufacturing, testing and production of the F5 3D scanner, Mantis' first product to enter the market. The imaging gadget has been designed with oil and gas, maritime and research applications in mind.
Vice-President and Head of Lab IX Lior Susan commented: "We are very excited to announce that we have invested in Mantis Vision. We believe that the 3D market is one of the best examples of a disruptive technology today, and Mantis Vision is leading the way with its first-to-market advantage. Their technology fulfils the enormous and emerging demand for user-generated 3D content creation solutions such as 3D printing, ecommerce, immersive and augmented experiences and the list goes on."
The F5 has a 3D resolution of up to 0.5 mm and a 3D point accuracy of as much as 0.05 mm at a distance of half a metre. The device's XY point density is 3 mm in a single frame and it has a 3D distance accuracy of up to 0.5 mm over one metre. Moreover, the F5 continuously acquires 3D data for up to an hour at a speed of 500,000 points per second and features a USB 2.0 interface to facilitate ease of use.
Accompanying the F5 3D scanner is MV4D's MVP-3 production software, while allows for 3D data downloads, stitching, automation, global alignment processing, triangulation, surfacing, model quality feedback and composition and measurement tools.
