Open source 3D printer manufacturer, German RepRap has introduced a smaller 3D printer model, the X150, to the market based on its successful NEO 1000X machine.
At just 330 x 330 x 330 mm, the second-generation X150 desktop machine is housed within a fixed stable metal frame with a new distortion free and reinforced build platform to enable more accurate print results. Manufactured with the “Made in Germany” seal of approval, this model is designed to bring the same precision and reliability found in the NEO to a compact machine with a build platform of 150 x 150 x 150 mm.
The X150 features direct cooling by the object fan at the extruder output to reduce material distortion and improve printing of strong overhangs. The material feed has also been improved by the optimisation of the extruder, which at 0.4 mm is capable of producing highly detailed prints. In addition, the printer comes equipped with a selection of various print plates so that the right base is used for the right application.
The standard version of the X150 musts be connected via USB to a PC in order to send a file to print but with the optional ‘print box’, the machine can be used and controlled as part of a wireless network.
Back at TCT Show + Personalize in October, German RepRap spoke of how they wanted to answer the industry's call for large-scale prototyping using their knowledge of open source 3D printing and reputation for German manufacturing. This small-scale version takes those basic principles and brings it down to users working on smaller and more precise applications in an industrial capacity. The machine is available through authorised channel partners worldwide including 3D Chimera in the U.S. and in UK, Ryobe Ltd.
