German RepRap 3DPrintBox
3D printer manufacturer German RepRap has unveiled a standalone 3D printing peripheral, the 3DPrintBox.
The device allows for any 3D printer with a USB interface to be connected to a network and managed by a web browser.
The box features an integrated storage device allowing for remote 3D printing of models without being connected to a computer and is open to webcam integration so that users can check the print status. By attaching a webcam to the device, users printing larger models will benefit from a real-time display showing the print progress through the browser interface.
According to German RepRap, remote 3D printing is high in demand for users across the board. The 3DPrintBox is ready to be integrated into a network and acts as a print server so that Gcode files can be printed from any computer attached to that network, overriding the idea of the one dedicated computer.
The browser interface is open to open source independent access so that devices such as mobile phones and tablets can also be used to control the printer, giving the user more options for printing. German RepRap will offer the development to the OpenSource Community.
The 3DPrintBox is available for 149 Euro and is compatible with any 3D-printer with a USB connection including German RepRap 3D-printers X400, PRotos as well as NEO.
